On Chicago Parent: Advice to new middle school students and their parents

Parents sending their kids back to school often experience a range of emotions, and those feelings are often heightened when a new school is involved.  When my daughter made the jump to junior high last year, there was a pretty big learning curve for both us at her new school. This year, though, things are easier. Today we went to set up her locker and it was so much easier than last year. In fact, she has the same locker so decorating it was a piece of cake. And we both now know where the bathrooms are – score!

For my blog for Chicago Parent this week, I asked my daughter for her advice to new middle school students. What she said was sweet.  When I asked her what advice she had for parents, she was a little less sympathetic.

Her advice for parents: “Don’t sweat it. Your kid will be fine.”
